Going Green Georgia

When that certain lovable Muppet Kermit the Frog sang "It isn’t Easy Being Green" so long ago, chances are pretty good that he wasn’t referring to how easy it is to help the environment.

Helping the world go greener can begin with you. Anything from purchasing the right appliances to changing out a light bulb can make a huge difference to both the world around you and even your pocketbook in the long run.

10 Tips For Living Green

1. Replace light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs. CF bulbs produce much less heat and use about 1/4 the energy of normal incandescent light bulbs and can last up to 10 times as long as standard bulbs. Source: www.lowimpactliving.com

2. Lower energy bills with programmable thermostat. Save energy while you're away or sleeping. When used properly you'll see a savings of about $150/year. Source: www.energystar.gov

3. Install flooring made of renewable materials such as bamboo.

4. Use extra insulation in your home. If you can see the tops of your ceiling joists then you probably need more insulation.

5. Use double-paned windows when building or remodeling. The air between the glass provides additional insulation.

What constitutes a green spa?

By now most people are somewhat familiar with green business operations and the reasons for operating a business with the environment in mind. As with many industries in the United States and abroad, the spa industry is beginning to realize the impact it has on the environment due to the high use of energy, water and waste. In addition, the fact that spas are places that consumers seek out for stress reduction, detoxification, and skin care, places them in an excellent position to educate clients about the environment’s impact on one’s health and wellness. It is fitting then that spa operators are concerned with educating consumers about taking care of the environment just as they would their physical bodies.
