Going Green Georgia

100% All Natural

USDA guidelines for "100% All Natural"; simply requires no artificial ingredients and minimal processing. The guidelines do not address treatment of animals, type of feed, or use of antibiotics/hormones. But here at Springer Mountain Farms, " All Natural"; means more than just no artificial ingredients. "All Natural" means that our chickens are raised without any chemical medicines, antibiotics, or animal by-products in their feed. That is why our products tell you everything it does not have: No Antibiotics, No Chemical Medicines, and No Animal By-Products added to our feed.

Free Farmed

Springer Mountain Farms takes extra steps to ensure the health and welfare of our chickens. We are the first poultry producer in the world to be certified by the American Humane Association as Free Farmed. The Free Farmed program requires birds to be raised in a low stress environment with proper shelter, comfortable resting areas, sufficient space and the ability to express normal behavior. The result: a healthier better tasting chicken.

No Antibiotics or Chemical Medicines

Some companies feed animals antibiotics to promote growth. Animals don't need antibiotics to grow and be healthy. Focusing on good husbandry practices (increased space, reduced stress, high levels of sanitation) reduces the need for antibiotics. Like people, chickens sometimes get sick and need to be treated; then and only then should they be given antibiotics, not to promote growth. If we have to treat our birds with antibiotics it is done so by a licensed veterinarian who then removes the birds from the program in order to be sold on the conventional market.

Low Stress

It's generally accepted as fact that stress on people can lead to a variety of health issues; many of those same issues similarly affect chickens as well. That is why Springer Mountain Farms chickens are raised in a "low stress" environment following the American Humane Associations "Free Farmed" guidelines that require up to 5 times more space than chickens raised in traditional commercial operations. "Low Stress" also means Springer Mountain Farms chickens ALWAYS have access to all the pure fresh mountain water they want, great high quality all natural grains, plus vitamins and minerals to help ward off disease NATURALLY. They spend their entire lives in controlled environment surroundings - warmed in winter and cooled in hot summer months. The end results are (1) a happier chicken and (2) a better tasting chicken for your family.

Biodiesel

Biodiesel is defined as mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats that conform to ASTM D6751 specifications for use in diesel engines. Biodiesel refers to the pure fuel before blending with diesel fuel.
Protecting Our Greenspace

"Springer Mountain Farms is proud to do our part to reduce our nation's dependence on fossil fuels which are a non renewable energy sources." By converting our by-products into alternative fuels, we are helping to clean our environment while reducing our dependency on foreign countries.
100% of our fleet runs on biodiesel. Scientists believe carbon dioxide is one of the main greenhouse gases contributing to global warming. Neat Biodiesel (100% biodiesel) reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 75% over petroleum diesel.

Protecting the environment for generations to come is high on Springer Mountain Farms' list of priorities. Springer Mountain is more than a name: it is a mountain of great beauty in Northeast Georgia, our home. On the farm before a chicken house is ever built the soil is tested for residue, potential run off, and environmental impact on wildlife. Our staffed specialists continually conduct environmental tests that the EPA has set as standards. Our specialists look beyond these standards for new and better ways to protect the environment.

100 % All Natural

Many companies have prepared ads that are misleading to consumers. Their intent is to lead you to believe that their products have attributes that they really do not have. Springer Mountain Farms feels it is important that you understand the truth about the products you purchase.

These misleading claims take many forms. One is the "100% All Natural" claim. Many companies want you to think that "100% All Natural" describes the process by which their chickens are raised and what they are fed. However, the USDA defines "100% All Natural" as a product that is minimally processed with no additives during processing at the plant facility. This definition has nothing to do with how the chickens are raised or what they are fed. It only applies to the processing facility, not the farm.

Companies also make the misleading claim that their chickens have never received Steroids and/or Hormones. What they do not tell you is that the USDA & FDA strictly PROHIBIT the use of Steroids and Hormones in poultry entirely. Therefore, all poultry companies can actually make this claim. They also use this claim to mislead consumers into thinking that Steroids, Hormones, Antibiotics and Chemical Medicines all fall into one category. They do not. Steroids and Hormones are strictly prohibited, but the USDA & FDA does allow the use of Antibiotics and Chemical Medicines in poultry production.

At Springer Mountain Farms we want to set the record straight. We can proudly say that our chickens are not only "100% All Natural," but also are produced with
NO Chemical Medicines, NO Antibiotics, and Never Fed Animal By-Products.

Grade A is the highest quality grade given by the USDA. All fresh Springer Mountain Farms chicken products proudly display the USDA A Grade shield.

"Grading involves evaluating poultry in terms of quality standards. Quality standards reflect factors that affect the inherent properties of poultry, factors that determine its relative degree of excellence or value. The highest quality is U.S. Grade A..." -USDA

The American Humane Association
"A Name You Can Trust"

The American Humane Association was founded in 1877, and is the oldest and most prestigious national humane organization in the United States and is the only national charity dedicated to protecting both children and animals. Therefore, setting the standards of practice for "Free Farmed Certified" was top priority. If you've ever watched closing credits of a major motion picture that animals were involved, the AHA was there to ensure that they were properly cared for and humanely treated.

So the next time you're in the supermarket, look for the Free Farmed label on all of our Springer Mountain Farms chicken products and buy with confidence. You'll be glad you did.
