ATLANTA -- In answer to high rates of childhood obesity, diabetes and other health issues, Children’s Wellness Network of Georgia hosts their annual Funfest on June 14, 2008. The event brings together a wide variety of resources for holistic health geared toward children and families, with the goal of improving children’s health.Destiny Produce---an organic produce distribution company located in the Atlanta area—is supplying fresh, organic fruits and vegetables at the event. Destiny Produce supplies retail stores, buying clubs, co-ops, restaurants, schools and food service distributors with a wide variety of organic and local produce. Sevananda Natural Foods Co-Op, one of Destiny’s retailers, will offer samples of fresh organic fruits and vegetables at Funfest, supplied by Destiny Produce.Along with a variety of activities, Funfest will feature many ideas for helping kids and families improve their eating habits. Everyone from the USDA to the typical mom suggests adding more fresh fruits and vegetables to kids’ diets. The challenge is getting kids to try something new.Dee Dee Digby, Vice President of Sales for Destiny Produce, believes that taste is one reason to choose organically grown produce. “Organic simply tastes better,” says Digby, “and studies are beginning to suggest that all people benefit from eating food that has not been treated with chemicals—especially children.” With the added environmental benefits, organic food is an essential part of holistic health and wellness.Founded in 2001, Destiny Produce is the only Certified Organic produce distribution company in the Southeast. The company’s commitment to sustainability shows up in their business practices, which include partnerships with local organic farmers, Emory University’s local foods initiative, Georgia Organics, Slow Food Atlanta and many area schools, markets and restaurants.
