Rachel Kim joined the Channel 2 Action News team in January 2006. Several months later, she was promoted to bureau chief for Channel 2’s Gwinnett County Bureau. Since then, Rachel has been covering issues that affect one of the largest counties in metro Atlanta.Before coming to Channel 2 Action News, the Los Angeles native was a reporter and fill-in anchor at KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City. Just weeks into her tenure there, Rachel experienced first-hand the rigors of working in "Tornado Alley." She covered the May 8, 2003 tornado as it ripped through several central Oklahoma communities. She also covered the state trial of convicted Oklahoma City bomber Terry Nichols.Prior to her work in Oklahoma City, Rachel was a weekend anchor and reporter at KAMR/KCIT-TV in Amarillo, Texas. When she was not producing and anchoring KCIT-TV's weekend evening newscasts, Rachel was reporting on the day’s news. Her responsibilities also included reporting on and producing a weekly report called "Daycare Decisions" which informed the community about how local daycares scored in their inspections by the Texas Department of Human Services.Rachel began her broadcasting career at the University of Southern California. The proud Trojan graduated with bachelors degrees in communications and English and earned a master's degree in broadcast journalism. She is also proud to be a member of the USC Alumni Club of Atlanta. "Fight On Y’all"!In addition to her reporting duties, Rachel is an active member of the Asian American Journalists Association Atlanta Chapter. She has been elected Vice-President for 2008 after serving as Secretary in 2007.Rachel moved to Atlanta to join the WSB-TV family less than a year after losing her mother to pancreatic cancer. She is a member of the Atlanta chapter of The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, or PanCAN. PanCAN works to focus national attention on the need to find a cure for pancreatic cancer and funds research grants for pancreatic cancer, as well as providing patient services.When she’s not covering the news, Rachel enjoys reading, eating Korean food, finding new places to shop, and visiting her family and friends all across the country.You can email Rachel at rachel.kim@wsbtv.com
